Despite the October energy crisis caused by massive Russian shelling of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure in various areas, the demand for electric cars in the country continues to grow steadily, as confirmed by the latest statistics from Ukravtoprom.
Thus, according to the report of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers of Ukraine, 1,614 more battery-powered vehicles (BEVs) were added to the Ukrainian fleet during the month – 73% more than last year and 2% more than in September this year. For comparison, during the same period, Ukrainians registered 15.1 thousand passenger cars from internal combustion engines imported from abroad.
The vast majority of electric vehicles registered in October were passenger cars – 1556 units. (308 new and 1248 used). Nissan Leaf remains the most popular electric car among Ukrainians – in October, another 268 “leafs” received Ukrainian registration. In second place is the Volkswagen ID.4 with a score of 227 units. The fourth line in the top five most popular electric cars is occupied by the Japanese-Chinese Dongfeng electric crossover. Honda M-NV (117 units), and the fourth with a minimum lag Tesla Model 3 (115 units). The TOP-5 of the October electric car market is closed by Renault Zoe, which has 90 registrations.
There were 58 registered electric commercial vehicles last month. (all used). In this segment, the championship is already traditional for RENAULT Kangoo ZE (39 units).
In total, since the beginning of the year, more than 10.5 thousand cars on battery power sources have passed their first registration in Ukraine, which is one and a half times more than in the same period in 2021.
Ukrainians quite actively switched to electric cars even before the war (in Ukraine, electric cars are exempt from VAT and import duties at least until the end of 2025), and the fuel crisis and further price increases in the spring led to a rapid increase in demand for electric models. Already now in Ukraine there are more than 100 thousand electrified cars (this is together with “hybrids”). At the end of September, Energoatom announced the creation of a network of 120 fast charging stations for electric vehicles in two years – 40 high power (160 kW) and another 80 medium power (60 kW) in regional centers and on the main highways of Ukraine. For almost a month, the Ukrainian energy industry has been suffering from Russian missiles and drones, so it is not yet clear how this will affect the initial plans and schedule.
