Late in the evening of November 7, Antonov State Enterprise published in social networks clarifications regarding the new Mriya On February 24, during the shelling of the city of Gostomel and the Antonov airport, the Russian occupying forces destroyed the legendary An-225 Mriya aircraft – it appeared after a number of Ukrainian media, citing the German publication Bild and the words of acting. Director General of the enterprise Yevgeny Gavrilov spread information about the construction of the second An-225 aircraft “in a secret place” and its 30 percent readiness.
The Antonov State Enterprise reported that, in fact, the company’s specialists began design work for the construction of a new An-225 Mriya aircraft and, according to the available expert assessment, there are currently about 30% of the components that can be used for the second sample of the aircraft. In particular, these are details from the Mriya, which was destroyed by the Russians.
In fact, this is not the first time we have been told about the construction of a new Mriya – at the end of April, the general director of Ukroboronprom reported that specialists were already working on the construction of a new copy of the world’s largest transport aircraft with the involvement of international partners and modern technologies. Even earlier it was reported that the Antonov State Enterprise was going to revive the An-225 at the expense of philanthropists .
The Bild article says that Leipzig/Halle International Airport will help raise money for the restoration of the An-225 and calls a new estimate of 500 million euros. The preliminary estimate was different – more than $3 billion and about 5 years. At the same time, in the clarifying message of the Antonov State Enterprise there is the phrase “it is too early to talk about a specific amount.” It is important to understand that these are not very accurate preliminary estimates. And obviously, no one is going to start actual work on the construction of the An-225 “Mriya” before Russia capitulates. While this is definitely not the time, there are many questions for both Antonov and Mriya. The main two questions are the expediency and rationality of building such a large aircraft (or is the project even capable of paying for itself) and the investigation into the circumstances of the destruction of the still ongoing An-225 Mriya aircraft. CEO Sergei Bychkov was removed back in March,

- An-225 “Mriya”, the largest and most powerful aircraft in the world, was built in 1988. It took a surprisingly short time to develop it – 3.5 years. Already on December 21 of this year, the aircraft took to the skies for the first time and since then has set more than 240 world and national records, which have been included in the Guinness Book of Records.
- Prior to the invasion of the invaders, Mriya often carried out important humanitarian flights: it delivered medicines and protective equipment needed to fight the coronavirus around the world, delivered Christmas gifts to AIDS patients in Africa, and transported humanitarian aid to victims of the earthquake in Japan.
