Yuriy Ignat, the speaker of the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke about the strikes of the occupiers on the infrastructure of Ukraine with the help of Russian loitering ammunition “Lancet”. Previously, these kamikaze drones were already involved at the front, but were not actively used against civilian targets in the rear.
“In addition to the Shahids, the Lancet strike drones have appeared in wide use. They need to achieve the goal they have set for themselves: strike at critical infrastructure. It’s not just about energy. As you can see, the enemy has already struck at the hydrotechnical infrastructure,” Ignat said.
Characteristics of the drone “Lancet-3”
Lancet-3 is a Russian-made UAV with a high-explosive fragmentation or cumulative warhead weighing up to 12 kg, equipped with optical-electronic and tele-guidance systems. The drone is controllable – the operator can correct its flight through the camera, including at the final stage. The ammunition supports interchangeable modules fixed in the head part: the list of equipment may include a laser designator, an infrared camera, search sensors using gas analysis and radio emission.
The flight range of the Lancet is 40-70 km, which limits its scope. The manufacture of UAVs requires the use of imported components and is extremely difficult under the sanctions. The beginning of the use of these already infrequently used drones on civilian infrastructure testifies to the limited stocks of enemy weapons.
The situation with the shelling of infrastructure facilities
Yuri Ignat predicts an increase in strikes on energy facilities in the colder period. Among other things, he assumes the use of Iranian missiles by Russia (if their deliveries are confirmed). It is possible for the enemy to accumulate means of destruction for delivering regular massive air strikes.
From Friday, November 4 to Monday, November 7, for the first time since the beginning of last month, there was no massive missile attack on civilian targets in most of the territory of Ukraine. The enemy shelled mainly front-line settlements. The pause may be related to the accumulation of ammunition – there is nothing to indicate that this tactic has ceased to be used.
According to The Guardian , there is a heated discussion in Iran about the admissibility of selling weapons to Russia and using them in Ukraine. Pro-government speakers hold different opinions: some argue that Russia is a clear aggressor and Iran should not supply weapons, thus being drawn into the war, others are not against the supply, but against the use of weapons in Ukraine, still others fully support the sale and use of Iranian weapons by Russia in ” war with the West.
Such statements could serve as a backdrop for diplomatic bargaining with the West and lead to restrictions on the supply of Shahed UAVs or ballistic missiles, forcing Russia to more economically use its own scarce and hard-to-repair long-range munitions, which, according to various estimates, are used up by 60-80%.
