Another expensive, customizable wireless controller has become available to PlayStation 5 owners. Razer’s Wolverine V2 Pro has gone on sale for $249.99, $50 more than Sony’s DualSense Edge controller, which will launch in early 2023.
Interestingly, the Wolverine V2 Pro has received an Xbox-style joystick layout, where they are placed diagonally instead of next to each other. The controller kit includes two additional magnetic stick caps: one is short and convex, and the other is tall and concave.
In addition to the usual PS color scheme and input methods (including touchpad, PS home button and microphone mute), the Wolverine V2 Pro has six remappable buttons – one next to the shoulder buttons on each side, and four more rear petals. Same button layout as the cheaper ($149.99) Wolverine V2 Chroma wired controller – the controllers are similar in many ways.
Mapping functions to the Pro’s additional buttons requires pairing the controller via Bluetooth with an iOS or Android phone or tablet, and then launching the Razer Controller app (however, the controller cannot control games via Bluetooth). The application allows you to set one of the macro buttons as a sensitivity switch, decreasing or increasing the sensitivity of the joystick while pressing. The tactile response of the buttons feels like a mouse click. The manufacturer promises increased switch response
Wireless connectivity, a new color scheme, and a few buttons for the PlayStation compared to the V2 Chroma might not seem like enough to make up the $100 price difference – especially considering the DualSense Edge pre-order price and the lack of a zippered hard case, enhanced Bluetooth functionality, and a haptic experience.
