Elon Musk announced that Twitter’s user verification program should work again next Friday, December 2. At the same time, it is planned to introduce a new identity verification procedure to solve impersonation problems.
Musk called the new manual authentication process “painful but necessary.” Confirmation checkboxes will now be color-graded for different categories of users: gold for businesses, gray for government, and weekend blue for individual accounts. In some cases, user accounts will have an additional small icon that shows they belong to an organization, but in this case, confirmation from the organization will be required.
Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.
Gold check for companies, gray check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
Painful, but necessary.

With such a statement, Musk admitted that the previous trick with providing a blue checkmark on the terms of subscription for $8 per month without any verification was not his best idea. After Musk ignored warnings from Twitter’s own staff, a paid Twitter Blue subscription was launched. In fact, it quickly led to some “verified” accounts impersonating well-known public figures and brands. This led to an exodus of advertisers from the platform. Musk has since suspended Twitter Blue until the company resolves the impersonator issue.
