The developers of Hogwarts Legacy in another gameplay demonstration showed how flying on a broomstick and a hippogriff works in the game, and also revealed several details of the interior of Hogwarts.
Flying on a broomstick (and a hippogriff!)
Hogwarts Legacy isn’t limited to the castle grounds, with the broomstick feature allowing players to explore the open world at any time. You can fly around Hogwarts and visit other small settlements where you can meet other witches and wizards with their own stories and side quests. Not only the territories change, but also the seasons (in particular, the snowy exterior in the demo adds a bit of Christmas spirit).
When approaching the ground, the speed can be increased to infinity, but when rising to a height, the acceleration will be regulated by a counter that appears in the lower right corner of the screen. However, in the store in Hogsmeade, you can upgrade brooms, and choose one that will allow you to increase acceleration at heights.
Flying isn’t limited to a broom – you can also ride a hippogriff (you certainly remember Harry’s eventful first flight with Beakwing in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). The hippogriff was previously introduced as a bonus for ordering Hogwarts Legacy.
Arena of Dark Arts
Hogwarts Legacy has plenty of battle arenas to test your dueling skills in, but those who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game will have access to an additional location: the Dark Arts Arena.
Unlike the battle zones shown earlier, this one has a darker aesthetic (something you need to experience Avada Kedavra). Yes, the demonstration also shows a death spell that immediately erases the “health charge” of the opponent.
However, the magic in Hogwarts Legacy is deeper than the spells we saw in the Harry Potter saga. During battles, you can use Ancient Magic, which also causes heavy losses.
In addition, you can brew potions or grow magical plants to enhance combat techniques (I wonder how the mandrake will work?).
Save the room
An ideal place for creating potions, growing plants or caring for animals is the Rescue Room (observant fans will definitely notice the bust of Ignatia Wildsmith, the inventor of gunpowder, at the entrance). You can change the interior of the room by adjusting it to suit yourself. Also here you can perform some creative tasks, for example, use a loom to improve your equipment.
You’ll also be able to bring items here and learn their meanings, as well as learn recipes and generally improve your arsenal.
Outside the room is a green area where you can tend magical creatures. In the preview you can see a small Nifler, a cute Knizl and a huge Grafhorn. A few furs, feathers and other materials can be taken to improve your equipment.
The space can also be improved – put a house, trees or arches. There’s even a food processor, so you can feed the animals automatically while you’re busy with other magical things. There is also a toy box and breeding pens. Oh, and pets can come up with their own names!
In the previous 40-minute gameplay demo of Hogwarts Legacy, the developers showed a detailed interior of Hogwarts, wizard duels and a character editor where you can choose various hairstyles, including dreadlocks, add swallows and more. The main character wears a Victorian bow tie, waistcoat and cloak. Appearance can be changed simply by visiting a barbershop in Hogsmeade.
Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled for a worldwide release on February 10, 2023 for PlayStation5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, PlayStation4 and Xbox One on April 4, 2023, and Nintendo Switch on July 25, 2023.
