The owner and head of the Luaz Motors company, Vadym Ignatov, announced his intention to revive the famous automobile brand LuAZ. He intends to start the production of electric cars under this brand.
According to Vadym Ignatov, Ukraine needs a vehicle that could meet the needs of small businesses, farms and households. In addition, such a car should have a simple design and be easily serviceable or repairable. At the same time, the car must be electric, suitable for production in Ukraine and have an affordable price.
“Once upon a time in Ukrainian history there was already such a car, but with an internal combustion engine. This is a glorious Volynyanka – LuAZ 969, which faithfully and faithfully served many Ukrainians for years,” writes Vadym Ignatov.
He was sorry that this brand disappeared during the turbulent years. Therefore, Ignatov decided to revive it and start the production of LuAZ electric cars. A lot of work has already been done for this. So, in Ignatov’s opinion, the optimal form factor was chosen – a pickup truck. It will be able to meet the needs of utilitarian transportation and has a universal platform for a large number of usage options.
It is planned to release two versions of the pickup truck:
- “Farmer” – with a double cabin and a large cargo compartment;
- “City” – with a four-seater cabin and a smaller cargo compartment.
It has already been possible to develop and test the construction of pickups – strong, reliable and not difficult to manufacture. An optimal electric drive system has been developed, which, on the one hand, provides the minimum necessary operational qualities, and on the other hand, ensures the minimum consumption of electrical energy. This reduces the requirements for the battery, the cost of which makes up the main part of the price of the entire electric car. Currently, running tests, testing in real conditions of use and in different areas are taking place.
According to Auto-Consulting, the LuAZ electric pickup truck received a 5 kW engine. It consumes 7 kWh of energy per 100 km and will provide a top speed of 50 km/h (to meet the requirements of the L7e category). The estimated price of the vehicle will be a little over $5,000.
At the same time, there is still a lot of work ahead, and the war is making adjustments to the original plans. Since Lutsk is located in a dangerous border zone, where provocations from aggressors can be expected every day, they decided to deploy production in other, safer regions of Ukraine. There are also difficulties with suppliers of spare parts, as some companies are destroyed, some are unstable.
However, the tests will be completed in the near future, the problems should be solved in the near future, and already at the beginning of next year it is planned to start accepting orders for the Ukrainian electric car LuAZ.
