Buyer’s guide: TOP-5 C-SUV cars – we compare Honda HR-V, MG HS, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, Volkswagen T-Roc

Buyer's guide: TOP-5 C-SUV cars - we compare Honda HR-V, MG HS, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, Volkswagen T-Roc

The situation is difficult, the supply of cars is not constant, prices change – but still the car market of Ukraine is alive! The proof of this is the start of sales of new cars in our market. And what else: completely new generations of Honda HR-V and Nissan Qashqai models, updated Volkswagen T-Roc crossover. Who is better, who is worse? And if we add a few more interesting participants? I will tell you about which C-SUV class car to choose and buy in this buyer’s guide.

Five cars for comparison

So, the reason for the presence of three cars in the current TOP-5 list has already been described above. The bestseller Nissan Qashqai has changed generations – a new bid for success? The Honda HR-V crossover has become a head better than its predecessor – but how does it compare to its competitors?

The facelifted Volkswagen T-Roc is good – but is it enough against the competition? Also, let’s not forget about the “lion” Peugeot 3008: it was updated relatively recently and is still popular with buyers. And let’s take the MG HS crossover as the “joker”: the most powerful engine, all-wheel drive, relative availability – will it help?

Honda HR-V – estimated price $29-34 thousand

MG HS – estimated price $20-27.5 thousand.

Nissan Qashqai (including MHEV hybrids) – estimated price $22-39 thousand.

Peugeot 3008 (including the Hybrid4 version) – estimated price $28-58 thousand.

Volkswagen T-Roc – estimated price $28-32 thousand

After all, what kind of company has gathered: two “Japanese”, two “Europeans”, one “Chinese”! There are gasoline, diesel, hybrid versions. There is front or all-wheel drive. And each of these cars has sufficient interior space, a roomy trunk, and normal ground clearance.

Prices are set for all versions of cars – from the most affordable to the maximum. Prices are approximate and indicated in currency due to possible strong exchange rate fluctuations, but price guidelines are nevertheless outlined.

All cars will be evaluated in several key nominations with the assignment of points from 1 to 5. I will also provide a photo of the car that is the winner of this block and give a short explanation next to each point.

Equipment and price of the car

Victory for Nissan Qashqai. It offers the widest choice of versions, already in the base there are many security systems, and in the middle and maximum versions – adaptive headlights, projection on the glass, massage seats, deluxe panorama. For example, Volkswagen T-Roc has “smart headlights”, massage seats can be found in Peugeot 3008, and the new Honda HR-V can also please you with an excellent “base”. At the same time, each of the cars, even in the basic version, already has LED headlights, climate control, light-alloy wheels, multimedia with a color touch screen, front and side airbags.

It’s just a shame that Honda and Volkswagen don’t have a choice of engines – all versions are based on a 1.5-liter petrol engine (including the Volkswagen T-Roc R-Line version) and front-wheel drive. Only the “German” has a powerful “turbo”, and the “Japanese” has an economical hybrid. The Peugeot 3008 offers a choice of a pair of front-wheel drive diesels; the powerful gasoline version of the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 with all-wheel drive stands alone. In general, the Nissan Qashqai crossover can offer engines of different power (hybrids are also coming), front or all-wheel drive, “mechanics” or “automatic” in the form of a CVT variator.

Against the background of competitors, the MG HS car lags behind in terms of equipment: you will not find adaptive “cruise” or a projection on the windshield, in this case there is no “premium” music or massage. But even its equipment will be quite enough for a comfortable life: the base has air conditioning, a normal cruise, smartphone connection. And there is also a choice between a 1.5 or 2.0 liter engine, front or all-wheel drive, “mechanics” or “automatic”.

Together:

Nissan Qashqai – 5 (a wide selection of versions, a decent “base” and the maximum “maximum speed”)

Peugeot 3008 – 4 (there is a choice of configurations and engines, good equipment and even “night vision”)

Honda HR-V – 3 (there is a choice of configurations, good equipment)

Volkswagen T-Roc – 3 (there is a choice of configurations, good equipment)

MG HS – 2 (there is a choice of engines, but the equipment is inferior to rivals)

Buyer's guide: TOP-5 C-SUV cars - we compare Honda HR-V, MG HS, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, Volkswagen T-Roc

It’s simple: a crossover Nissan Qashqai gives the widest list of versions, which allows you to meet the requests of buyers as accurately as possible and expand the price range – there is an option for everyone!

Interior space, interior transformation

It’s also simple: the winner is the Honda HR-V. Why so? Because four cars out of five give a plus-minus comparable interior and trunk: they are Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, MG HS. The last three get a spacious interior due to the increase in size, the minimal advantage of the Nissan Qashqai can be attributed to the perpendicular opening of the doors and the well-thought-out organization of the trunk.

The Peugeot 3008 crossover has an excellent finish, and the MG HS can offer an air cleaner and rear sofa backrest angle adjustment. But everything pales against the background of the convenience provided by the Honda HR-V with its “miracle” seat. The most compact Volkswagen T-Roc is expected to offer the smallest interior. Although its space is minimally sufficient, there is a new soft panel at the front, and ventilation deflectors and an armrest are provided at the back: in short, you can live.

Together:

Honda HR-V – 5 (normal interior space, transformation possibilities, good decoration)

Nissan Qashqai – 4 (normal interior space, convenient door opening, trunk organizer shelves)

Peugeot 3008 – 4 (normal interior space, excellent decoration)

MG HS – 3 (normal interior space, air cleaner, backrest adjustment)

Volkswagen T-Roc – 3 (sufficient interior space, good decoration and trunk)

Crossover Honda HRV tries to please everyone: in the front – cool decoration and attention to details, in the back – great space and possibilities of transformation.

Behavior on the road, comfort and handling

Two cars – Peugeot 3008 and Volkswagen T-Roc – claim the victory. Both offer a good setup of the chassis: good comfort, ease of control, desire to turn. Here’s how to teach Peugeot not to “pull” when starting from a standstill – because its turbodiesel perfectly “opens up” when accelerating on the go.

And a note about the Volkswagen T-Roc is the operation of the DSG box, which likes to go up – but everything is solved by the S-mode! And then he discovers that a 150-horsepower Volkswagen can overtake a 180-horsepower Peugeot, providing acceleration to “hundreds” in less than nine seconds.

Only the MG HS, equipped with a 2-liter 228 hp engine, is capable of this. power Although in general, with such an indicator, he should simply destroy his opponents, but something did not work out. However, comfort is good: the MG HS crossover drives frankly softly. Such an emphasis on comfort is also made by the “Japanese” Honda and Nissan. By chance, adding to this the convenience of acceleration control and a good relationship “on the steering wheel”.

Together:

Peugeot 3008 – 5 (excellent balance of handling and comfort; good acceleration on the go)

Volkswagen T-Roc – 5 (also excellent balance, good dynamics in S mode)

Honda HR-V – 3 (good comfort, convenient acceleration control)

Nissan Qashqai – 3 (good comfort, pleasant start from a standing position)

MG HS – 2 (comfort and “departure” from 9 seconds, although I expected more from the 2-liter turbo engine)

11

I will post photos of two winning cars at once, although there is a small remark about each. In case Peugeot – from a large 180-horsepower diesel engine, you expect a brighter start from a standstill. In case Volkswagen – It is fully revealed only in S– box mode.

Fuel consumption, warranty, resale liquidity

The Honda hybrid has the most modest fuel consumption. Plus a 3-year general warranty and a 5-year warranty on hybrid system components. Plus, it’s a well-known brand that promises good price retention during resale.

Somewhere near the Nissan Qashqai, only the fuel consumption increased. Perhaps hybrid versions will help lower it – I will tell you in the new year. Against this background, Volkswagen and Peugeot can immediately offer better fuel economy. Plus, Peugeot has a longer standard warranty and flexible terms of additional warranty – up to five years. By the way, the MG HS crossover also offers a 5-year warranty. But consider high fuel consumption and Chinese production.

Together:

Honda HR-V – 5 (low fuel consumption, good warranty)

Nissan Qashqai – 4 (average consumption, standard warranty)

Peugeot 3008 – 4 (low fuel consumption, extended warranty)

Volkswagen T-Roc – 4 (low fuel consumption, standard warranty)

MG HS – 2 (high costs and Chinese origin, but +1 point for 5 year warranty)

Buyer's guide: TOP-5 C-SUV cars - we compare Honda HR-V, MG HS, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, Volkswagen T-Roc

Here Honda HRV played the game Toyota: modest fuel costs, extended warranty conditions, excellent liquidity during resale on the secondary market. But if Nissan Qashqai will add economic hybrids.

All-wheel drive, off-road capabilities

It’s simple: whoever has four-wheel drive won. Who has? That’s right, these are Nissan Qashqai and MG HS cars. Nominally, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 hybrid has all-wheel drive, but it is not available to every buyer – the price is too high. The rest of the Peugeot 3008 owners are left to hope for the Grip Control system – but also help! A couple of Volkswagen T-Roc and Honda HR-V cars are available on the Ukrainian market only in front-wheel drive versions, but the “Japanese” has more ground clearance and has an assistant when going down a slope.

Together:

Nissan Qashqai – 5 (has all-wheel drive, Snow/Off-road modes, ground clearance 180 mm)

MG HS – 4 (there is four-wheel drive, Lock mode, ground clearance 175 mm)

Peugeot 3008 – 3 (front-wheel drive and Grip Control or expensive hybrid Hybrid4 with all-wheel drive)

Honda HR-V – 2 (front-wheel drive, hill-start assist, ground clearance 188 mm)

Volkswagen T-Roc – 1 (front-wheel drive, ground clearance 161 mm)

Car Nissan Qashqai available with four-wheel drive in several configurations (for different “buyer’s wallets”), plus snow and off-road driving modes are provided here.

Results in points and afterword

Let’s summarize the results at once in two calculations: “absolute” – the best result from points without taking into account the price, “beneficial purchase” – the ratio between the price and the number of scored points.

Absolute – the best result by the sum of points:

Nissan Qashqai – 21 points

Peugeot 3008 – 20 points

Honda HR-V – 18 points

Volkswagen T-Roc – 16 points

MG HS – 13 points

Profitable purchase – ratio of price and collected points:

Nissan Qashqai – price $1-1.9 thousand for 1 point

MG HS – price $1.5-2.1 thousand for 1 point

Honda HR-V – price $1.6-1.9 thousand for 1 point

Volkswagen T-Roc – price $1.75-2 thousand for 1 point

Peugeot 3008 – price $1.4-2.9 thousand for 1 point

The winner of the comparison is the new Nissan Qashqai crossover. Moreover, both in absolute terms (the equipment worked here, driving comfort, the availability of versions with all-wheel drive), and the question of the asking price (a wide selection of configurations helped here).

I will definitely mention the Peugeot 3008 crossover – it proved that, as before, it is ready to fight for a buyer with young competitors. Just be prepared to pay for it: the “tastiest” versions turn out to be more expensive than the competition – and I’m not even talking about the Hybrid4, but in general.

I must also mention the new generation of Honda HR-V: the car has really become a head better than its predecessor and is now ready to play in the class even against the most dangerous rivals.

One of these is the Volkswagen T-Roc crossover – it is good on the road and in equipment, but it lacks a choice of versions: add all-wheel drive, economical diesel, powerful gasoline.

Finally, the MG HS crossover: it successfully plays the “a lot of car for a little money” game, even if it loses in absolute terms. But to be in the company of such players is already a success.
