The US will hand over the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system to Ukraine – it will be part of a new package of military aid worth almost 2 billion dollars. This was announced in the White House.
“It will contain a very important new capability: the Patriot missile battery, which will be a critical asset to protect the Ukrainian people from Russia’s barbaric attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.”
from the official statement of the White House
In the near future, this aid package will be announced by US President Joe Biden — late yesterday evening there were reports that Volodymyr Zelenskyi will personally visit Washington, where he will deliver a speech at a joint session of both houses of Congress, and this morning an official confirmation of the trip appeared. This will be the first trip of the president outside of Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war on February 24.

MIM-104 Patriot is a medium / long-range air defense system produced by the American Raytheon, which is significantly superior not only to all air defense systems of the Armed Forces, but also to the enemy. Currently, it exists in three modifications. The complex consists of 6-9 batteries, each battery contains 4 launchers (each one accommodates four missiles). A modern radar with phased array antennas provides support for more than a hundred targets and is capable of simultaneously firing up to 8 targets. With a rich arsenal of multi-purpose missiles, the Patriot can engage multiple ballistic and cruise missile targets, as well as other highly maneuverable targets, including active, passive and thermal homing warheads. The cost of supplying 9 batteries (4 PUs per battery) of Patriot systems can reach $9 billion. 216 OKRs with improved GEM-T guidance, 10 sets of radars with phased arrays, 10 target acquisition control stations. Undoubtedly, the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system is capable of significantly strengthening air defense and helping to create a multi-layered anti-missile defense system of the Ukrainian air shield.
