Tesla noted a new important achievement – in a week, the largest manufacturer of electric cars in the world released 868 thousand battery cells of the new 4680 format, which are enough to produce approximately 1 thousand cars. Of course, CEO Elon Musk immediately congratulated the team on overcoming this important milestone in the production of new batteries, which are critical for increasing the volume of production of existing models and the production of new cars.
A little reminder – Tesla first announced cylindrical cells in the new 4680 format (46mm diameter, 80mm height) in September 2020. Their energy capacity is five times greater than that of cells of the 2170 format (21 mm diameter, 70 mm height), which are now widely used in electric vehicles. And the 4680 elements are distinguished by the manufacturer’s patented non-contact/wide-contact (tabless) design with reduced internal resistance – instead of the contact plate, the current is supplied along the edge of the electrode strip, which allows you to create larger elements without problems with overheating.

In February, Tesla celebrated the release of the first million 4680 batteries, and in the report for the third quarter of 2022 mentioned a threefold increase in their production volumes. Previously, it was precisely because of the lack of batteries and technological difficulties that Tesla repeatedly postponed the release of new cars. In fact, it was only at the beginning of the month that Tesla shipped the first electric Semi trucks three years late. Elon Musk’s automobile company is preparing for the release of two more long-suffering cars – its first loud Cybertruck pickup truck in an unusual polygonal design, as if from video games of the 1990s, and the new Roadster sports car with SpaceX jet engines and acceleration to a hundred in 1.1 seconds. Both should be released next year, if there are no further postponements.

Ultimately, it’s these elements that should enable Tesla to release its hotly anticipated $25,000 affordable electric car with Autopilot. Until recently, it was slated to launch by 2024, but that was before chip shortages, war and a looming global recession, so it’s probably worth a shot another year or two.
As you know, the energy business is an integral part of Tesla’s ambitious business plan. In the summer, Elon Musk said that a third of this big Tesla business plan (it has not been presented yet) is entirely and completely dedicated to scaling sustainable energy on a global scale to ensure a bright future for the Earth and its inhabitants (whatever that means).
Previously, Tesla planned to reach output volumes of 100 GWh by 2023 and 3,000 GWh by 2030. Let’s see if Elon Musk’s company can achieve these goals.

In 9 months of 2022, Tesla has already shipped to customers 907,125 cars, and according to the results of 2022, the result is expected to be about 1.2-1.3 million cars. We will remind you that Tesla now has four car factories, which together can produce almost two million cars a year – 1.6 times more than at the beginning of the year, and is preparing for the construction of the next Gigafactory. Reuters recently reported that Tesla plans to build a sixth Gigafactory in Mexico for $10 billion. By comparison, the Giga Berlin-Brandenburg plant cost $5.5 billion.
