Before the release of the movie “Avatar: The Path of Water”, Cameron constantly “bypassed” the media, dutifully promoting his work. Presenting the new adventures of Jake Sully and Neytira, the director also recalled his 1986 film “Aliens” and confirmed the old legend that he was so confident in the idea of the work that he literally “showed” the money to the producers.
James Cameron, on the wave of fame after the release of the fantastic action movie “Terminator” in 1983, met with the executives of 20th Century Fox and announced the idea of creating a sequel to Scott Ridley’s horror movie “Alien”.
According to a legend that has been circulating for years, Cameron presented the script to the producers and then wrote the word “Alien” directly on it, added the letter “S” at the end and crossed it out with two vertical lines – so it began to look like a dollar sign. This was a hint of the future success of the film and its box office.
As part of a recent interview with Cameron, Empire magazine provided the director with a list of questions from other stars of the film industry, including Guillermo del Toro, Rian Johnson, Harrison Ford and Edgar Wright. “When I was about to start work on Aliens, I had lunch with one of the producers who said, ‘If the movie is good, Ridley will get paid, and if it’s not, it’s the end of your career.’ I said, Well, I like it.

I was in a meeting with the head of the studio and the executive producers, showed the script and on the opposite side of the last page I wrote Alien. Then added an S at the end and drew two vertical lines through the S. Maybe it was a reflex when they realized how closely the $ sign was associated with the word “Alien”. Maybe it was my confidence. But they told me yes.
Aliens proved to be a major and commercial hit for Cameron: the film’s budget was $18.5 million, while at the box office it collected $86 million in the United States alone and $131 million at the international box office. The film was nominated for 7 Oscars, including Best Actress for Sigourney Weaver. Aliens won Oscars for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects.
It will be recalled that Cameron’s latest film “Avatar: The Path of Water” is currently being broadcast in cinemas. In its opening weekend, Avatar: The Last Airbender collected $134 million in the United States and $435 million worldwide. The film became the third worldwide premiere of the weekend during the COVID-19 pandemic – it is behind only the films “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with $442 million and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” with $600 million. Domestically ” “Avatar: The Path of Water” along with “Batman” became the fifth highest-grossing opening of 2022.
