L’Oréal presented new gadgets for creating perfect makeup at CES 2023. The Brow Magic eyebrow applicator will help emphasize your look with the help of augmented reality, and the HAPTA lipstick nozzles will simplify the process for people with limited hand mobility.
Brow Magic was developed in collaboration with Prinker, a company that produces printers for temporary tattoos. 2,400 small brushes on the applicator can draw up to 1,200 pixels per inch – the tool works similarly to microblading and microshading procedures, although it has a short-term effect and is easily washed off with special means. The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of products used to improve the appearance (to create perfect eyebrows, you often have to involve a whole arsenal: pencil, fixative, powder or shadows).
To use, you must first open the Brow Magic program, which will scan your face. Next, various shapes, thicknesses and effects are offered. After you choose the necessary parameters, you need to cover the eyebrows with a primer, apply an applicator and apply a finishing coat.

L’Oréal has already tried to combine augmented reality and high-tech printing – at CES 2021, the company presented Perso, a gadget that helped apply lipstick, foundation and facial care products to the face. He also used AR to “try on” the look beforehand. This prototype culminated in YSL’s Rouge Sur Mesure, a lipstick printer that lets you try on shades with AR before mixing them yourself using interchangeable cartridges.
Another novelty from L’Oréal is HAPTA, a smart lipstick applicator that will be especially useful for people with limited hand mobility. The device was developed in collaboration with Verily Life Sciences, an Alphabet-owned company that produces electronic tableware with stabilization technology (making it easier for people with tremors to eat). The HAPTA prototype works on a magnetic mount and can rotate 360 degrees and bend 180 degrees.
Users can lock the device in place once they determine the correct settings and save them for future use. The gadget can run on battery for about an hour or about ten uses. It takes 3 hours to fully charge the battery.
The Brow Magic is expected to be released in 2023, but there is no word on the price yet. This year, L’Oréal plans to release HAPTA under its Lancôme brand.
For many years, Lancôme has strived to provide every woman with cosmetic solutions adapted to her needs. Beauty technology has enabled us to fulfill this mission even more effectively, fundamentally changing the way we develop beauty products and services, and enabling greater personalization. With HAPTA, we are making beauty equal,” says Françoise Lehmann, global brand president of Lancôme.
