Wireless headphone cases can be more than just storage and an external battery. Companies JBL and HP have made them a convenient means of control by providing small touch screens. The display displays the simplest indication of processes and allows you to switch tracks or work modes.
Even before CES 2023, JBL announced the Tour Pro 2 wireless headphones with a touch screen in a case for Europe, and at the show an announcement was made about the start of sales in the US. The stated price of $249.95 is about the same as the US price of the AirPods Pro.
The 1.45-inch LED touchscreen on the JBL Tour Pro 2 case will help you be useful to skip the track that is playing, turn ANC on or off, and even view notifications. The headphones work for up to 10 hours of battery life with ANC off or up to 8 hours with it on. They have six built-in microphones for better audibility during calls. The headphones support Bluetooth 5.3, but so far without LE – the technology will be added later, with an update.

HP Voyager Free 60 Plus headphones will be sold to corporate users. The Voyager Free 60 base model comes with a standard charging case that adds 10 hours of talk time. The case of the Plus model has an OLED touch screen that allows you to control music playback, volume and settings, see battery status, and accept or reject calls.
With the help of the case, you can manage the connection to the devices – the headphones support multi-point connection and can remember up to eight connections. Other Voyager Free 60 Plus features include adaptive active noise cancellation with transparency mode and WindSmart technology for improved call clarity. There is support for AptX and touch controls on the headphones themselves. They also have an IP54 dust and moisture rating.
HP promises about eight hours of listening time with ANC on without the aid of a case. It can charge wirelessly or via USB-C. The headphones have a USB-3.5 mm cable that can be connected to listen to music (without support for phone calls).
The idea of a functional screen on the cases of TWS headphones suggests itself – it is not very convenient to control listening or talking by touching the headphones themselves. The case includes everything necessary to accommodate the screen: small flat surfaces and a power source. In the potential of using a case for monitoring and control, it can make TWS headphones a more functional and independent device.
