Twitter has announced an expansion of the range of political ads allowed on the platform. This goes against a global ban on political advertising that has been in place for more than three years. The company, now owned by Elon Musk, is on the verge of bankruptcy and is apparently looking for additional ways to make money.
Twitter will also relax its ad policy on “cause ads” (dedicated to specific events) in the United States. In the future, the company will bring its advertising policy in line with the norms acceptable on television and other mass media.
Twitter banned political ads in 2019 after the leading social network faced a wave of criticism for failing to prevent the spread of election misinformation. At the same time, advertising was also limited “for the malice of the day”.
“We believe that [внимание к] a political message should be earned, not bought,” Jack Dorsey, then Twitter’s chief executive, tweeted when announcing the move.

Twitter has also started banning journalists who write about Elon Musk and ElonJet. Reporters from CNN, The New York Times and others found themselves in the bathhouse
