Apple is gearing up to release its long-awaited mixed reality headset this spring, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The company is reportedly planning to unveil the device ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference in June and begin shipping this fall.
It is assumed that the device will be able to provide virtual and augmented reality experiences using Apple’s new xrOS operating system. The price of the headset will be $3000. Gurman says Apple has already shown the Reality Pro-branded device to “a small number of high-end” developers so they can start building third-party apps for it.
In recent months, there have been many reports about the potential capabilities of the headset. Yes, it was reported about the possibility of scanning the iris of the eye to authorize and confirm payments, as well as about a physical dial that will allow you to disconnect from virtual reality. In addition, the headset can get integration with AirPods Pro with an ultra-low latency mode when wearing the headphones with the headset. Additionally, it has been speculated that Apple’s headset may be aimed at work rather than gaming, so it won’t include a game controller.
However, according to Gurman, the device’s hardware, software and services still have a lot of issues to work out, and it’s slowing down other Apple projects. As a result, the company can introduce fewer new products this year than in previous years. iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 may also have more modest updates.

This year, Apple is expected to release a new line of MacBook Pros with minor improvements, as well as a 15-inch MacBook Air and a new Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra chip, which makes it impossible to upgrade the RAM by the user. The release of a new version of the HomePod is also expected, but Gurman does not expect anything revolutionary from it.
