James Cameron’s Avatar: The Last Airbender continues to attract audiences to theaters and its box office continues to grow. Over the past weekend, the second part of “Avatar” earned another $20 million at the box office, and in just 6 weeks since its premiere, the film brought in $2.02 billion at the global box office. Thus, “Avatar: The Path of Water” became the sixth film in history, crossed the milestone of $2 billion.
Interestingly, among the six films that brought in more than $2 billion at the box office, three films were directed by James Cameron. The list includes James Cameron’s Titanic and Avatar (and now Avatar: The Last Airbender), as well as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Another interesting fact, four out of six of these films starred actress Zoe Saldaña: as Neytira in the two Avatars and as Gomora in the two Avengers.
Even before the premiere of Avatar: The Last Airbender, James Cameron predicted that the sequel would have to be the “third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” to make a profit. Considering the current level of collection, the film has every chance to reach these places. Now in fifth place is the film “Avengers: Infinity War” with a collection of $2.04 billion, and the fourth line of the rating is occupied by the film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $2.07 billion. To get to the third place, which is occupied by “Titanic” , the film has a milestone of $2.19 billion. But “Avengers: The Final” ($2.79 billion) and “Avatar” ($2.9 billion) are far behind.
