The games in The Last of Us series experienced a huge surge in sales after the launch of the TV adaptation. The Last of Us Part 1 saw a 238% week-over-week increase over normal sales in the UK. The PS4 version of the game, The Last of Us: Remastered, re-entered the charts and rose to #32 with a 322% increase in sales.
Nintendo’s anime-style turn-based strategy RPG Fire Emblem Engage tops the UK charts. FIFA 23 dropped to second place after a 21% drop in sales compared to the previous week, while God of War Ragnarok dropped to third place with a 26% drop. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe comes in at No. 4 with a 3% increase in sales compared to the previous week, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 rounds out the top five, dropping two places after a 29% drop in sales.
In the US, Amazon’s PS4 charts are now topped by The Last of Us Part 2 and The Last of Us: Remastered at number one and number two respectively. The Last of Us Part 1 saw a smaller increase in retail sales and came in at number 93 on the PS5 game sales chart.
It’s not hard to see why sales of these three games in the US and UK have soared. The debut episode of the TV show The Last of Us (“One of Us”) aired on January 15 in the United States and a day later in Europe. Audience response to the first episode was almost exclusively positive worldwide.
