It is remembered that a review of the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line crossover was published in the past. But there was an opportunity to test a car that was previously mentioned only in passing – the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover in the Elegance configuration. Compared to the R-Line version, it looks less noticeable and costs less, but in some ways it is even better. How can it be so? Now I will tell you – in the format “Top 5 questions and answers”.
How is the Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance different from the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line?
Let’s start with the main thing: in two cases, we are talking about the updated Volkswagen Tiguan crossover – it is easily recognizable by the narrow headlights that resemble the Volkswagen Golf 8. Together with the headlights, the radiator grille that connects the optics has changed. And then there is the traditional set: front bumper, rear bumper, wheels, body colors.
Stop! Here is the first important difference – it is the Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance that gets a standard front bumper, not its R-Line variant. Such a bumper has only small side “ears”, decorated with a black gloss. Plus, chrome and silver inserts are visible in the lower part of the bumper.
And black, unpainted plastic is visible from below. The same black plastic “belt” runs along the sidewalls, along the lower part of the doors, and then smoothly flows to the rear bumper – which is also distinguished by chrome decoration. As a result, the Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance crossover does not look as daring as the R-Line version. But it is much more practical when operating on light off-road.

Updated crossover Volkswagen Tiguan it is easiest to recognize it by the narrow headlights – by the way, because it is matrix LED optics IQ. Light: dynamic high beam control, cornering lighting, etc. Speaking specifically about the version EleganceSuch a car can be identified by the front bumper: standard shape, gloss on the corners, silver insert below. Plus custom wheel rim options, chrome inserts on the sidewalls and rear bumper. By the way, the edges of the latter only hint at the exhaust pipes – the real dual exhaust is hidden below.
Everything is clear with the appearance. And what’s in the cabin?
The front panel is made of soft plastic and in strict forms, an updated “climate” unit with touch controls, a new “automatic” lever, a Digital Cockpit Pro digital instrument panel based on a 10.25-inch display. At first glance, the Volkswagen Tiguan car is generally familiar, and its changes have already been described. But what makes the Elegance version stand out?
For example, with your steering wheel. It has a familiar shape and traditional buttons – not touch panels, as in the R-Line version. Plus, for the Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance car, a heated steering wheel function was added, which the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line lacked (previously, the sports steering wheel was not combined with heating).
Next, look at the “virtual” devices: the layout is similar, and the control logic is similar, but the visual design is different – fonts and inscriptions, color scheme. Finally, attention to the seats: they have a regular shape and fabric sides. However, the central part still gets pleasant ArtVelours upholstery, a retractable support roller is provided for the legs, and a lumbar massage is provided for the back.
But the rear part of different versions of the Volkswagen Tiguan is no different (of course, if you do not take into account the upholstery). But that’s good! Because, as before, I will without a doubt put the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover in the list of class leaders: excellent space, the ability to adjust the rear sofa, a comfortable armrest, a separate “climate” zone, heated seats, numerous pockets. And the trunk is beautiful: large and well thought out.
The constant shape of the front panel – changed details: virtual instruments, the “climate” unit, the “automatic” lever. Version Elegance gets an additional central compartment for small things, and the seats are different, not only in fabric, but also with a pillow extension and massage. Also, this version has a calmer decor: dark glossy inserts on the panel and in the doors; at the same time, decorative lighting (30 colors) is also available.
Everything is already known from behind – but this is no less good: every little thing is thought out! And the trunk is good: it offers a significant volume (615 liters), an electric lid drive with an opening sensor, niches for small things and a 2-level floor. In a word: similar to the appearance, a crossover Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance does not try to surprise with luxurious finishing – but takes practicality and thoughtfulness of small things.
What’s going on? Is there a difference?
I would like to say that there is. But in reality there is practically no difference. The Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance crossover seemed to me a little softer than the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. But so much so that this difference can be attributed to summer/winter tires or the subjectivity of perception.
At the same time, any version of the Volkswagen Tiguan is remembered for its almost easy handling: light steering wheel and clear execution of commands, neutral behavior in turns. Only the roll gives out the fact that in front of us is a crossover, and not a passenger car.
The two-facedness of the TSI engine and the DSG “automatic” has already been noted in the past – I repeat it now. The only difference is that the Elegance Volkswagen Tiguan crossover doesn’t try to look like a racer – that’s why no one expects the agility it’s really capable of. After all, he is capable!
The maximum acceleration occurs with a noticeable push into the back of the seat, the engine easily picks up 5-6 thousand revolutions, the gearbox quickly changes gears – and here we are changing a hundred faster than seven seconds: this is the result of a hot hatch from the recent past!
At the same time, in 80-90% of cases, such a crossover, and even in such a chocolate-brown color, will comfortably transport a family through city traffic jams or intercity highways. With a quiet engine sound, low revs (1.5-2 thousand), and early upshifts, which the DSG box loves so much. In this mode, costs can also be reduced.
After all, the powerful gasoline Volkswagen Tiguan steadily consumes 10-11 liters per 100 km in the city, and if you are enthusiastic about acceleration and drive, the consumption will reach 13 liters per hundred. On the highway at a speed of 80-90 km/h, fuel consumption is 6.5-7 l per 100 km, at a speed of 110-120 km/h, the consumption increases to 8.5 l per 100 km of travel.
A familiar couple with a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine TSI and a 7-speed gearbox DSG allows you to drive at any pace: both slow and leisurely and fast and dynamic. But be prepared to pay for everything with fuel consumption. The car is equipped with an all-wheel drive system.MOTION and the ability to choose driving modes. By the way, the individual mode can be assembled not only for asphalt, but also for off-road – by adjusting the operation of the all-wheel drive (more precisely, the friction clutch at its base), assistants on ascent and descent, power steering, etc.
Everything is clear, except for the price. How much does such a car cost?
Today, three versions of the Volkswagen Tiguan are offered in Ukraine – and the Elegance version occupies the very central position among them in terms of price positioning.
Such a car is available with a 220-horsepower 2.0 TSI gasoline engine or a 150-horsepower 2.0 TDI diesel engine, while it always gets four-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG “automatic”. And the equipment of the Elegance version includes the already mentioned IQ.Light matrix headlights, heated seats (front and rear), heated steering wheel and 3-zone “climate”, all-round view Area View, adaptive cruise control ACC, digital instrument panel, lumbar massage function, Ave. Price Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance 2.0 TSI – from UAH 1.59 million. or slightly less than $40,000; price Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance 2.0 TDI – from UAH 1.73 million. or about $43 thousand
In terms of equipment, a crossover Volkswagen Tiguan in the package Elegance offers almost the maximum available for this model: powerful engine, digital instrument panel, matrix headlights, touch 8-inch display with support Apple CarPlay and Android Autocircular review.
For example, there is a more affordable version of the Volkswagen Tiguan Life – it is available only with a diesel engine, and it has a simpler configuration. Although it is quite enough for life: LED headlights (but ordinary), a rear view camera, an electric trunk lid drive, a heated steering wheel. Plus, even this configuration has four-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG gearbox, adaptive “cruise” and 3-zone climate control. Price Volkswagen Tiguan Life 2.0 TDI – from UAH 1.51 million. or a little less than $38 thousand.
The flip side of the coin is the R-Line version. The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line crossover also offers a choice of two engines (TSI or TDI), and in terms of equipment, it roughly corresponds to the Elegance. Plus R-Line’s own exterior design: front bumper, rear bumper, door trims, original 19-inch wheels.
Plus its own R-Line interior: sports seats, steering wheel, decorative overlays on the front panel. Price Volkswagen Tiguan R–Line 2.0 TSI – from UAH 1.63 million. or almost $41 thousand; price Volkswagen Tiguan R–Line 2.0 TDI – from UAH 1.78 million. or about $44.5 thousand.
Maksym Solovyov, founder of the company Drivovo: “We have cars in our service Volkswagen Tiguan presented mainly in performance R–Line: striking design, luxurious interior, maximum equipment. But once when ordering a new car, we decided to study it in detail Volkswagen Tiguan in the package Elegance – and were surprised at its high level of equipment, where it was ahead of it in some points R–Line! So we found another interesting option for our customers – for similar (or even less) money, but certainly with all the advantages (and even a little more) of an already known car Volkswagen Tiguan“.
As a result: can you get more and pay less?
The Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance crossover (and this article) answers this question in detail. We can’t stand the bright look and leather interior, but we don’t agree to give up on the configuration – and even demand more for a lower price! Does it sound strange? However, the Volkswagen Tiguan Elegance car is ready to answer this request: it is an excellent option for those who do not want to stand out from the outside, but want to get maximum comfort inside.
