Speaking to BuzzFeed about The Last of Us series and the future of the game franchise, Neil Druckmann confirmed that the next game in the series will be multiplayer. The producer and director also announced a new set of characters that live in another city that has not yet appeared in The Last of Us.
“You will be able to take your friend into the world of The Last of Us and experience the tension and brutality of this world, as well as play a completely new story.”
Speaking about The Last of Us Part 3 and user expectations, Druckmann mentioned that Naughty Dog is proud to work with Sony as a publisher. According to him, the company provides the necessary funding and creative space to realize what the studio wants to do and what fans of the game are waiting for. This is not a case where the publisher is pressuring the team to get a sequel as soon as possible.
As an example, he gave the Uncharted series, the last game of which was “wildly successful”, but the studio decided to “do the final touch and move on”.
“Same with The Last of Us: it’s up to us whether we want to continue or not. Our process is the same as when we made Part 2, which is if we can come up with a compelling story that has that universal message and declaration of love — just like the first and second games — then we’ll tell that story . If we can’t, we will have a very strong finish in the second half and that will be the end of it.”

“The response to the first episode so far has been incredible, the feedback, the fans… So we’re just praying that people keep watching, we’re going to be the reverse, and [у нас] there will be more stories to tell,” Neal said.
According to him, the series will not go beyond the story of the games: “We only want to adapt to the games, so we don’t want to go beyond them.”

“I didn’t feel like I was watching someone act like Ellie. I watched Ellie. We just found Ellie in the real world and put her on the show.”
