The first of many previously announced small power plants has been installed in Irpen, which was heavily damaged by the Russian invasion, and will serve critical infrastructure in the suburbs of Kyiv.
The Jenbacher gas piston plant with a capacity of 1 MW is manufactured in ready form by the Austrian company INNIO and installed as part of a joint project of the Irpen City Council and KTS Engineering LLC. The project was coordinated by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Urban Development, Andrii Gerus.
The main task of the Jenbacher gas-piston power plant is to provide electricity to the boiler house, which provides heat to 70% of the city’s residents. Schools, a hospital and the city council will also be connected to it.
The low-power power plant was assembled and assembled in Austria. It was put into operation a few days after delivery. For installation, it was only necessary to create a concrete foundation for the installation of the container-type structure, connect gas and electricity.

FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
The small power plant runs on natural gas, which makes the electricity produced cheaper than using liquid fuel generators. The installation is a permanent, not a backup power source and is designed for continuous operation. According to the agreements, the installation of the station did not cost the city budget of Irpen.
Andrii Gerus talked about plans to install 100 small power plants to power the infrastructure of various cities. According to the people’s deputy, a distributed generation network of hundreds of similar stations will be created in Ukraine to diversify electricity generation and protect the power system from large-scale damage.
The National Energy Trader and Turkish Karpowership will develop a 500 MW power supply project for Ukraine using floating power plants
