On February 5, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) announced the winners of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. This year, Beyoncé gathered a considerable collection of statuettes, and the award for the best video game soundtrack (for the first time a separate category is presented at the award) was won by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and composer Stephanie Econom.
Assassin’s Creed expansion Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok competed in the category with 4 game releases of 2021: Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Call Of Duty: Vanguard, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, Old World.
“I just want to give credit to all the people who have fought tirelessly to create this category of video game music. Thank you for recognizing and validating the power of game music. It’s really an honor, thank you,” Economou said.
This is the first time that a separate category has been presented for video games, but in the past game soundtracks have already been nominated or won at Grammys. In 2011, Christopher Thin’s song “Baba Yetu” won for Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocal.
