The new Ryzen 7045HX series of mobile processors, codenamed Dragon Range, based on the Zen 4 architecture, includes four chips with a TDP of 55 W with the number of cores from 6 to 16. Basically, AMD Ryzen 7045 are repurposed desktop processors aimed at the high-performance segment.
AMD HX and Intel HX processors have a large number of cores, a high frequency and integrated graphics, limited to a minimum – the chips are designed to work together with powerful discrete video cards.
At CES 2023, AMD compared the flagship processor Ryzen 9 7945HX with the previous generation chip Ryzen 6900HX and Intel Core i9-12900HX. The leaked marketing materials also list the Ryzen 7745HX and 7645HX, which are compared to the Core i7-12700H and Core i5-12500H, respectively. There is also a productive 7945HX processor, which, compared to the flagship, has two fewer cores, a 200 MHz lower frequency, and a 4 MB reduced cache.
It should be noted that Intel also offers i5-12600HX or i5-12450HX processors – they are somehow not included in the comparison, but are mentioned in the official positioning table.
The Intel Core i7-12700H processor replaced the popular i7-11800H chip in gaming laptops. Both have already been replaced by 13th generation Core models, but AMD’s comparison was conducted in December 2022, when Intel processors were not yet available. The advantage of the 7045HX series over them is also the use of faster memory – DDR5-5200 instead of DDR5-4800 in Intel Alder Lake systems. AMD’s plans for the Dragon Range are to compete with the existing 12th Gen Core lineup, which is known and understood by consumers.
AMD’s 8-core 7745HX and 6-core 7645HX processors will compete directly with Intel’s 12th generation Core i7 and Core i5 lineup. In its comparison, AMD claims an increase in response speed of up to 6% (this refers to single-core performance) and up to a 25% increase in multitasking performance compared to the Core i7-12700H. The 7645HX should be 7-9% faster than the i5-12500H.
According to AMD, the first laptops with Ryzen 7045 should be released already in February.
Intel introduced 35 mobile processors of the 13th generation with the number of cores up to 24 and 16 processors for desktop PCs
