Google removed the limit on the number of files added to Drive. Recently, it was implemented secretly, which was discovered by users. The company said that the restriction affected only a small number of accounts. Google is currently studying alternative restrictions.
The Google Drive Twitter account said: “We recently released a system update to disk item limits to maintain stability and optimize performance. While only a small number of people were affected, we are rolling back this change while exploring alternative approaches to ensure a great experience for everyone.”

In February, some Gogogle Drive users encountered an error – uploading files failed. A company representative confirmed that in their case there was a limit of 5 million files created to “prevent misuse of the system in a way that could affect stability and security.”
The initial restriction was not announced, for which Google received a lot of criticism from users. The situation is compounded by the fact that the restriction affected paid users, including those who subscribed to the highest level of Google One, which provides up to 30 TB of storage.
For those who often create or download small files, it was quite possible to reach the set file limit. In addition, there is no counter on Google Drive that could warn users about quickly exhausting the limit. Technically not the best approach turned out to be a compromise in front of users who expect more openness from Google in the future.
Google has expanded simple file sharing in Android to PC – the beta version of the Nearby Share program is available for Windows and works in Ukraine
