Google has announced new account deletion rules for Android apps. So apps that offer account creation should also have an easy way to delete an account.

Google wants to make deleting an app account as easy as creating one. These are applications distributed through the Play Store for Android devices. By design, users should be able to delete an account and all associated data both in-app and online. Developers will have to destroy account data when users request complete account deletion.
The move is meant to “better educate” users on how they can control their data and build trust in both apps and the Play Store as a whole. The new approach will also provide greater flexibility. According to Google, users can delete certain data (such as downloaded content) without completely deleting their account. At the same time, the ability to delete data via the Internet is designed to improve the user experience. Thanks to this, you will not have to reinstall the program just to clear the information.
The new rules will enter into force gradually. Authors have until December 7 to answer the data deletion questions on their app’s security form. The store will begin to reflect the changes in early 2024. Developers can apply for an extension of the current terms until May 31 next year.
This move by Google follows a similar decision by Apple, which introduced the same rules on June 30, 2022 for applications in the App Store.
