As reported by the press service of the company “Ukrzaliznytsia”, on April 6, 2023, a test trip on the 1435 mm Euro gauge from Poland (Lublin) to Rava Ruska was successfully completed. Thanks to this, it is planned to launch a connection between Warsaw and Rava-Ruska with a transfer to Lviv within a few months.
During the first trip, the Minister of Infrastructure of Poland Andrzej Adamchyk and the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, the Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov were in the train together with the railway workers.
The restored railway checkpoint on Rava-Ruska has not served passengers for more than 20 years. “Ukrzaliznytsia” restored an 8.4 km long section of Eurotrack and restored the railway station at the Rava-Ruska station.
After the test trip, the Polish side will need several months to deploy full-fledged customs and border control and complete formalities, after which the date of the start of regular service will be announced.
It is planned to open the passenger service in the summer. At the same time, a transfer hub will be organized in Rava-Ruska between trains from Warsaw on the European gauge 1435 mm and trains from Lviv on the Ukrainian gauge 1520 mm. In the future, the project of extending the European track directly to Lviv will be considered.
According to Kubrakov, the launch of connections between Warsaw, Lublin, Rava-Ruska and Lviv will satisfy the huge demand for transportation, as well as relieve traffic checkpoints.
We will remind you that it was previously reported that the European Union is preparing a preliminary technical and economic justification for the construction of the Eurotrack in Ukraine and Moldova.
