Despite ChatGPT’s great breakthrough in interaction with generative artificial intelligence, the interface for communicating with a chatbot is still far from ideal – the design is quite modest, the waiting time for a response is sometimes too long, the limit of messages, and the lack of a mobile application.

Adam D’Angelo, CEO of the social question-and-answer service Quora, sees this as an opportunity for growth. Back last summer, before AI text generators reached the masses, his company began work on an app called Poe that could make communicating with chatbots more convenient by bringing them all together in one place.

Now we know about Bard, Bing, ChatGPT and other AI services, but according to D’Angelo, thousands or even millions of bots for different purposes will appear very soon. He compares the ambitions of his creation to a web browser – instead of making a separate program for each of the technologies, users will be able to find them through Poe.

Quora has tested chatbots in the past, and the answers didn’t seem quite right to the developers.

“Often they can generate good answers – but they’re usually far from people. We then asked ourselves: When might these responses be most useful? And then when they’re really, really fast,” says D’Angelo,

Currently, access is offered to ChatGPT and GPT-4; Claude Plus and Claude Instant (two different works from Anthropic); Sage (bot trained on GPT-2); and Dragonfly. You can communicate with any bot by simply switching the dialogue window – like in the messenger with friends. However, free access is not unlimited – 1 message for GPT-4 and 3 messages for Claude per day is provided. Limitations can be removed by subscribing to Poe Pro for $19.99 per month.

Poe’s instructions recommend using Claude Instant for creative writing, and Claude Plus for more complex tasks. Sage and ChatGPT are better at languages ​​other than English, and Dragonfly “gives shorter answers.” But really, D’Angelo says, GPT-4 is pretty much the best at everything.

The Poe mobile app also has a Feed feature that allows you to share a prompt and an answer from one of the bots in a shared feed.
