Sony removes Marvel’s Spider-Man from the PS Plus catalog – Extra and Premium subscribers can play the action-adventure until May 15

In April, Sony is traditionally updating the contents of its PlayStation Plus repository – a dozen good additions will appear in the catalog, including Dishonored and Doom Eternal, and several games will disappear along with it, including Marvel’s Spider-Man.

PlayStation Plus is Sony’s subscription service that provides access to a large list of games for a monthly fee. There are three different subscription levels — Essential for $10, Extra for $15, and Premium for $18. The catalog is updated monthly, and April’s addition will feature titles such as Kena: Bridge of Spirits, the aforementioned Dishonored and Doom Eternal, Riders Republic, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, in addition to the monthly base PS Plus offerings.

In the fine print, Sony’s post lists the games that will disappear from the vault as early as May 15. Marvel’s Spider-Man, NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 and Resident Evil are some of them. You can see the full list of games that may be removed in the “Last chance to play” section of the PlayStation Plus page.

As a reminder, basic PS Plus subscribers only get access to monthly games – while those who pay for any other tier also get access to PlayStation’s catalog of up to 400 titles.

This Sony practice doesn’t bode well for PlayStation fans, especially when compared to Xbox Game Pass – which tends to add and keep the first games in its vault forever (such as Halo Infinite, Minecraft, and Bethesda’s most popular titles).

In March 2022, Sony’s CEO stated that adding the publisher’s own titles to the PS Plus game catalog would reduce the quality of the main PlayStation games. Meanwhile, Xbox has admitted that the company is losing money through Game Pass.
