In March, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson announced their on-screen reunion after TV Ed and True Detective in a new Apple TV+ comedy from David West Reed.

In the 10-episode show, the actors will play fictional versions of themselves – friends who gather their own families under one roof on a ranch in Texas. Recently, as reported by Variety, on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, McConaughey announced the title of the series – “Brother From Another Mother” / Brother From Another Mother and hinted that he may have a family connection with Harrelson in real life.

It turns out that Matthew’s mother may have been in a close relationship with Woody’s father.

“I’m starting something [говорить] he finishes, and vice versa. That sounds like part of our so-called “bromance” doesn’t it? My kids call him Uncle Woody and his kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see our photos where even our own people often confuse us,” McConaughey said.

“My mom was there too and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’ Everyone felt those three dots after the words “I knew.”

This information forced the actor to research his family history and it turned out that Harrelson’s father was on vacation in West Texas at the same time as Matthew’s mother.

“Also, there are receipts and places where these meetings may have taken place or whatever.”

Whether the new series takes this real-life story into account remains to be seen. The actors have not yet decided to take a DNA test to confirm their possible family connection. Apple TV+ calls the show “a heartfelt, amazing couple love story revolving around the beautiful bond between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.” Still, it’s a great ad campaign for the upcoming series, which will already garner enough attention for the buddy-actor duo.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are executive producing the show, along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Tannell, Bill Bost and Jeremy Plager, and David West Reed is writing the script.

• This story has a rather tragic twist – according to The Guardian, Harrelson’s father, Charles, was a hired killer. He was first convicted in 1960 for armed robbery, and in 1973 he went to prison for murder and was released after five years for good behavior. In 1981, Charles Harrelson was sentenced to two life terms for the murder of a district judge. He also claimed to have killed John F. Kennedy and died in prison in 2007.
• In a 2012 interview, Woody Harrelson said that he “got along pretty well with my father,” adding that his parents divorced when she was a child and “father was rarely around.”
