UnlocTeam project manager Taras Sinyuk talked about the launch of a new service called “Catalog of Ukrainian Game Localization” (KULI). This is a platform for tracking and supporting Ukrainian localization.
“Catalog of Ukrainian localization of games” contains information about games with official Ukrainian language support or Ukrainianizers. The creation of this service was preceded by attempts by enthusiasts to create similar catalogs.
Back in 2008, a separate gaming section was created in Toloka. Later, with the appearance of Ukrainian localization in Steam, in 2012-2013, the Ukrainian group Steam Translation Server (STS-UA) was created. In 2017, a group called “Steam in Russian” appeared on Facebook, where information about the availability of Ukrainian games on Steam, game projects and certain significant game events was published.
Gradually, it became clear that a new format was needed, so the enthusiastic translator Kyrylo Krasin, under the pseudonym Mo_45, created a game catalog site (uk.gametranslation.net) in Ukrainian, focused exclusively on the Steam store. The catalog contained information about official Steam localizations. However, later due to changes in circumstances, Mo_45 was unable to further support the development and development of the catalog, and the games also exist outside of Steam.
Thus, the game localization agency UnlocTeam, with the support of the web development and design agency BuildApps, decided to rethink the catalog. As a result, a new site was created, which should contain all possible Ukrainizers (official and unofficial) for all possible platforms. It is noted that this resource will be non-commercial and free of advertising. The authors hope that the “Catalog of Ukrainian localization of games” will make it possible to popularize games with Ukrainian localization among players and bring information about their availability. In turn, this will encourage the consumption of games in the Ukrainian language and lead to the appearance of a greater number of high-quality localizations.
