Sony Interactive Entertainment aims to sell 25 million PS5 units in the fiscal year ending in March 2024, which would be the highest ever for a PlayStation console. Sony is on track to achieve this despite only selling 8.2 million units in the first fiscal half.
Hideaki Nishino, SIE’s senior vice president in charge of platform development, console ecosystem and plans for the holiday season, told Nikkei. According to him, 3 years have already passed since the release of PS5 in November 2020, it is in the middle of the 7-8 year cycle. During this time, games that fully utilize the potential of the PS5 have started to pick up.
The supply shortage has been resolved, and this winter can be said to be the first sales season since release where you won’t have to hunt for a PS5. We aim to sell PS5 faster than PS4.
Nishino also shared information that movies and series from game franchises such as Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, should interest people who are not yet familiar with PlayStation to get acquainted with games on Sony consoles.

A few weeks ago, the Finbolt website published the monthly sales of Sony’s flagship console. On average, from January to October, 1,238,109 consoles were sold each month, and 40,705 PS5s were sold per day. However, such a pace gives only about 15 million consoles per year. So by March, Sony needs to accelerate a lot to reach 25 million by March.
