Previously, Danielle Brooks (“Orange is the hit of the season”) and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (“Just have mercy”) joined the cast.

Emma Myers has inked a deal to star in the upcoming Warner Bros. based on the Minecraft game. The actress is known for her role as Enith Sinclair on the hugely popular Netflix series Wednesday and appeared in the recent Christmas premiere of the streaming service Family Swap.

Minecraft has sold 300 million copies and 140 million monthly active players, and is now known as the best-selling game of all time.

The creators of the game, the company Mojang, received an offer for a full-length film adaptation back in 2012, and since then negotiations with Warner Bros. have been ongoing. Three years later, the studio announced that the film would be released in May 2019 and chose Rob McElhenney to direct, but later parted ways with him in favor of Peter Solett and involved Aaron and Adam Nee in rewriting the script.

Then things went wrong again, and finally Jared Hess directed and Allison Schroeder wrote the screenplay. Jason Momoa was also added to the cast, and the film’s final release date was moved to April 4, 2025. Filming should start next month in New Zealand.

Details of the plot are unknown, but it will definitely touch on the theme of the game – the previous description sounded like this:

“A teenage girl and an unusual group of adventurers must save the world from the Ender Dragon.”
