General Motors won’t be porting the original Bolt hatchback to the Ultium platform, just more of the Bolt EUV. This comes after GM said it was discontinuing the Bolt, but later confirmed it would revive the larger Bolt EUV model on the Ultium by 2025.
The original Bolt EV was built on GM’s outdated BEV2 platform. Since then, the automaker has switched to the Ultium architecture for its next-generation electric and battery vehicles, including the Cadillac Lyriq, Hummer EV and GMC Sierra EV. Chevrolet is building a trio of Ultium EVs, including the Silverado EV, Blazer EV and Equinox EV, reports The Verge.
They will be joined in 2025 by the Bolt EUV, which is slightly longer and has more cargo space than the Bolt EV. The differences are fairly minor: the Bolt EUV 2022 is about 23cm longer than the Bolt EV, but has basically the same height and width. First introduced in 2016, the Chevy Bolt EV was supposed to be the automaker’s first foray into the mass-market battery electric vehicle with a range of over 200 miles and an affordable price. At the beginning of 2021, the company released an updated model, as well as a slightly larger EUV version, which will be the only successor to the famous model.
