If you remember, in the spring “Ukrzaliznytsia” for the first time sold more tickets through the application than through the box offices – in April 2023, the application accounted for 22.8% of the total volume of tickets, while 22.3% was provided at the box office. Since then, the share of sales through the app has continued to grow, and is now at an all-time high of 38%. At the same time, the share of sales through cash registers continues to decrease (already less than 15%). That is, more than 85% of UZ train tickets are sold online – this includes, among other things, the official website, chatbots and partner sales channels. Obviously, not the last role in the digitalization of ticket sales, in addition to the convenience of using Ukrzaliznytsia itself, was played by the changes implemented by the national carrier — initially, in order to combat fraud, UZ completely transferred the sale of tickets to the Warsaw train (No. 67/68 Kyiv–Warsaw), which is or is not the most popular direction in the mobile application, and then introduced mandatory account verification using “Action.Signature”.
“Ukrzaliznytsia” did not miss the opportunity to advertise the application one more time and noted among the key advantages:
- personalized messages about the flight, arrival routes, route changes, etc.;
- secure payment by Apple Pay & Google Pay;
- return in one click;
- selecting a journey with a transfer in the absence of direct tickets;
- “Iron Friends” loyalty program, which allows you to accumulate “hugs” for every kilometer of train travel and exchange them for bonuses from partners.
It remains to mention that since December 10, “Ukrzaliznytsia” has increased the prices of international flights: the price of tickets for the popular Kyiv – Warsaw – Kyiv train has increased by 72%. Before that, in October, UZ launched a new flight from Lviv to Warsaw via the Rava-Ruska station, and in 2024 it is planned to launch new international and mining routes, a total of 14 new flights (11 domestic and 3 international), including trains Dnipro-Khelm, Chop- Vienna and Chop-Prague.
