Tesla has completely redesigned its humanoid robot – Optimus Gen 2 is 10 kg lighter and 30% faster, and the movements of the “teslabot” have become much smoother and it resembles a person even more.
It’s been a little over two years since Elon Musk announced that Tesla was moving toward the development of humanoid robots. The company rolled out prototypes pretty quickly — and so far we’ve seen one assembled model barely moving and another standing on a stand waving at the audience. At the same time, in the promo that followed the presentation, the robots walked more confidently and interacted with the environment.
The previous developments were replaced by the second-generation teslabots – Optimus received two degrees of freedom in the neck, integrated electronics and wiring, as well as more human-shaped legs with hinged parts of the fingers and torque sensors. The robot arms are equipped with 11 degrees of freedom, faster actuators and tactile sensors on all fingers to more successfully manipulate objects.

The new white body now resembles the Model S – the previous metallic one was closer to the Cybertruck. The robot is also 10% lighter and 30% faster, the company says.
Judging by the video, these improvements even gave the robots the ability to dance – as New Atlas claims, “in the style of Elon Musk.”
