“Did I just find ChatGPT on Spotify?” – users noticed the testing of playlist generation using AI

Spotify has confirmed limited testing of its AI-powered playlist generation feature based on a plain text LLM request.

“We regularly conduct testing. Some of them eventually pave the way for wider use, while others serve only as essential experiences. We have nothing more to share at this time.”

The new feature was demonstrated by TikTok user @robdad_: “Did I just accidentally find ChatGPT on Spotify?” According to the screenshots, the AI playlists feature is accessed from the Library tab in the Spotify app via the plus (+) button in the top right corner of the screen – its name will be in the menu.

@robdad_ Since when did they have this update on spotify. Now they got chatGPT making our playlists… also wtf is Which House Exploration???????? #spotify #update #ai ♬

The description says, “Turn your ideas into playlists with AI,” and notes that the feature is only available in English.

After selecting the option, a screen opens where you can enter a request in the chat window or view a list of suggested requests. The video demonstrated quick options such as focusing on instrumental electronics, filling the silence with cafe background music, enjoying fun, upbeat and positive songs, and exploring the genre.

No details about the audience, the duration of the test, or the launch date of the feature have been released.
