An electric car from the Chinese company Nio will soon go on sale with a 150 kWh semi-solid battery, the largest in any passenger car. To demonstrate the considerable range, Nio CEO William Lee drove the ET7 prototype 1,044 km in 14 hours.
The test took place in relatively cool temperatures (2 to 12℃) and was broadcast live. Driving was carried out mainly in semi-autonomous mode, with a speed limited to 90 km/h. The average speed was 83.9 km/h, and the travel time was 12.4 hours without stops, according to Engadget.
Manufactured by WeLion New Energy Technology, the battery has an energy density for a single cell of up to 360 Wh/kg or 260 Wh/kg for the entire battery (the latest Tesla batteries have an energy density of less than 300 Wh/kg). Semi-solid batteries use gel, clay or resin electrolytes, offering higher energy density and fire resistance than current batteries.
In China, the car brand NIO released its own smartphone with a price starting at $890
