The launch of the “Dia” redesign program became part of this year’s presentation of the Diia Summit — the first since the beginning of the full-scale war, which was opened by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. We will talk about the new services in “Dia” in a separate article, and here we will focus on the updated design of the program.
“Action” design update – for the first time in 4 years
The redesign of “Diya” was not a surprise – it was announced the day before. Mstislav Banik (head of development of electronic services at the Ministry of Digital) and Vova Smirnov (author of the design of the mobile application and web portal “Diya”, the new design of Diya.Osvita, founder, design director at Spiilka Design Büro, explained why the previous design became outdated the other day in a special podcast art director at Megogo).
During today’s presentation, the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov drew attention to the key goal of the redesigned application – inclusiveness, convenience and simplicity.
Among the key changes are a dynamic background (which doubles as an additional anti-forgery element), a unified style with enlarged document images, updated icons and menus, and a new personalized section of the Ribbon that adapts to the individual needs of users. Judging by the description of the presentation, the function of this section is to have everything important and potentially useful (services, alerts, news) in one place.
In fact, the “Action” interface, by analogy with the recent design update of Chrome, has been redrawn in the style of Material You (the current generation of the design system that replaced Material Design with the release of Android 12). The updated “Action” is now available – if automatic update is enabled on the smartphone, the new version will be downloaded and installed automatically. Or you can download and install it yourself from the Google and Apple app stores.
Already at the beginning of 2024, the Ministry of Digitization promises to open the source code of Diya.
- Diya is a Ukrainian electronic service of public services, available on smartphones and the Internet, launched in 2019. On the portal, you can get 100+ government services online, and in the mobile application, which is used by about 20 million Ukrainians, you can access 14 digital documents and 30+ services. The project achieved this result in three years — the program was first presented in 2019, and the official launch took place in 2020.
- Today, the “Action” application is used by almost 20 million people.
