Sony has announced that it has reached the milestone of 50 million PlayStation 5 consoles sold worldwide. It achieved this result on December 9, 2023, and the sales dynamics of the console lags behind the PlayStation 4 by just one week. In July, when the console reached the 40 million mark, it was two months behind the PS4.

The launch of the PS5 was hampered by severe supply issues caused by a global shortage of components. Consoles were constantly out of stock during the first two years of its existence on the market, reports Gameindustry.

However, the situation has changed, for example, in November, PS5 sales in Europe increased by 376% compared to November 2022. Sony has also cut the price of the console several times this year as it tries to hit 25 million PS5 shipments this fiscal year.

However, PS5 sales in the U.S. fell slightly in November compared to the same period last year. This is due to the fact that in November 2022 in the US, the problems with the PS5 inventory began to be solved, which caused a significant surge in sales, like this year in Europe and Ukraine.
