In June, Apple announced that the product would launch early next year — and as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes , that could happen as soon as weeks away.
Another media launch event shouldn’t be expected from the manufacturer, which is understandable for a $3,499 device that’s likely to have a limited supply and will initially only be available in the US. However, Apple Store employees should be well prepared to understand the settings and be ready to dispense prescription lenses.
Apple will sell the Vision Pro headset by appointment – to “fit” the model to the buyer’s parameters
The launch of Apple’s first new hardware platform in years includes new software with visionOS, and Gurman is already pointing to its next version arriving later in 2024 (along with the usual Mac and iPhone software updates). The recent release of iOS 17.2 gave the iPhone 15 Pro support for 1080p spatial video capture at 30 frames per second, so you’ll need a headset to play them in full detail.
Developers also received a message urging them to “be ready” — referring to software specifically designed for use in virtual and mixed reality environments, or iPad and iPhone apps that also use Vision Pro.
The report claims that production in China has been running at “full speed” for several weeks now, with retail units expected to be ready by the end of January before entering trade.
The Vision Pro is just the first in Apple’s line of mixed reality products, and the manufacturer is already working on models that will be more comfortable and less expensive, which could help the concept gain traction. Gurman previously wrote that the company would “likely” ditch the external display to achieve the internally discussed price of between $1,500 and $2,500. At the same time, the more affordable version will probably run on an iPhone-level chip, get fewer cameras and internal displays with a lower resolution.
