Apple has said that by the end of 2023 we will receive announcements of cars with the next generation of wireless CarPlay, and today it presented mockups of the interface, which stylistically mimics the dashboards of Porsche and Aston Martin. The new system aims to fundamentally change all the displays of this vehicle.
The theme is different for each car manufacturer, and the system gives CarPlay access to the car’s functions, such as the instrument cluster display, radio and temperature settings. In the Porsche version, there is a three-dial panel with a speedometer on the left and wallpaper made in the style of “crow’s feet”, as on the seats.
In the Aston Martin mockup (pictured in the main photo), the media display is in the center, surrounded by a speedometer and tachometer, and highlighted in the brand’s signature green color. Driving-related data comes from the car’s sensors directly, even when the iPhone is running apps, with Apple noting that the phone doesn’t store or track information coming from the car.
The feature was announced at Apple’s WWDC developer conference in 2022, and at the same event this year, the company asked developers to prepare for a new system that adds a combination with certain car keys, a simplified connection process, and improved Siri, reports The Verge.
Aston Martin is to integrate the next generation of CarPlay into the infotainment system on the DB12 and its DB12 Volante convertible. Porsche’s plans are less clear, but it said systems integration would “go one level further” than the existing systems of the all-electric Macan, and promised more details next year when it is unveiled.
