The new Starlink terminals will help restore communication in the de-occupied regions, ensure the work of schools, medical institutions and the energy industry.
The Ministry of Statistics reported that the Polish government handed over 5,000 more Starlinks to Ukraine — during the full-scale invasion, the country handed over 19,500 terminals, some of which were sent to the “Points of Invincibility”
In general, thanks to the support of partners, about 47,000 Starlink terminals are now operating in Ukraine.
Since last year, Starlink has been in the spotlight for providing Ukraine with satellite communications, which is important in the face of Russian military aggression. At the same time, Elon Musk has previously repeatedly stated that his technology should be used only for peaceful purposes, and even ignored Ukraine’s request to activate the Internet near Crimea, rather than foiling a potential attack on the Russian fleet.
In October 2022, Musk complained on Twitter that Starlink was losing about $20 million a month to maintain its services and threatened to end the free service in war-torn Ukraine. In June, the US Department of Defense announced that it had reached an agreement with SpaceX, but the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
SpaceX recently entered into the first agreement to launch the Starshield satellite network, which the US government will be able to use for its own purposes.
