GM issued an order to stop sales of the Chevy Blazer EV just weeks after its release. This difficult decision came as a result of reports of software problems causing the car to become unmanageable.
Edmunds documented 23 issues during a test drive of the electric SUV, including repeated crashes of the infotainment system and multiple error messages. Inside EV writer Kevin Williams also tested a Blazer EV and not only encountered similar problems with the display, but also found himself in a difficult position after the car broke down while charging.
We are aware that a limited number of Blazer EV owners have experienced some software quality issues. In order to give our customers a great experience when using their car, we are temporarily suspending the sale of Blazer electric vehicles,” Chevrolet said in a statement.
According to Vice President Scott Bell, new shipments have been suspended.
The Chevrolet Blazer EV is powered by GM’s Ultium battery system, which is used in many other vehicles, including the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. As reported by Inside EVs, they too have become the subject of many complaints. A GM representative said the Blazer’s problems “are not security-related and are not related to Ultium or Google built-in.”
