At night in Russian-occupied Feodosia, cruise missiles hit the large landing ship “Novocherkask”, which miraculously escaped punishment by the Armed Forces last year. According to military expert Yigal Levin, this large amphibious ship could have carried Shahed drones and ammunition for them. That is why the explosion became so grandiose.
The ship is on fire from bow to stern. The scale of the explosion indicates that there were weapons on board (according to some reports – kamikaze drones of the Shahed type). Thus, the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces clearly calculated the moment when it is possible to deliver the most effective attack on the ship, which destroyed both it and the weapons being transported. Large amphibious ships are critically important means of providing Russian logistics in Crimea, but under the blows of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, their number is steadily decreasing.
The number of sunken or damaged Russian ships is steadily increasing. At the head, of course, is the flagship – the submarine cruiser “Moscow”.
This is not the first meeting of the “Novocherkask” VDK with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On March 24, 2022, the ship miraculously survived an attack in the Russian-occupied port of Berdyansk. Then their fleet was left without a similar unit of the “Toad” class, which was called “Saratov”.

Novocherkassk belonged to the 775 project, was built in Poland during the USSR and put into operation in 1987. It is interesting that from 1990 to 2007, the Russian VDK “Novocherkask” stood for conservation, and only after that was it entered into the active composition of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, reports Defense Express.
The affected ship had standard characteristics for the VDK project 775:
- full tonnage – 4080 tons;
- hull length – 112.5 meters;
- width – 15 meters;
- crew + landing party and carrying capacity – 87 people + up to 300 people, up to 460 tons of cargo.

From the controlled territory of the Kherson region to Feodosia is a little more than 250 km. Most likely, the attack was carried out by Storm Shadow missiles, which in the “export” version have a limited range of 250 km.
