“Ukrposhta” and the National Post of Estonia Omniva in cooperation with the Slovak company Interport and “Ukrzaliznytsia” have launched a new logistics solution for the delivery of imported international mail to Ukraine. While air traffic is blocked due to the war, and freight transport by road is limited due to strikes in Poland and Slovakia, the delivery of international shipments from abroad to Ukraine by rail has been established.
Since 2002, Ukrposhta has been accepting imported international mail for the first time using freight rail cars. The new solution was made possible thanks to “Ukrzaliznytsia” and the Post of Estonia, which is a key transit partner of “Ukrposhta” during the delivery of parcels from global marketplaces, in particular, Chinese online stores.
In the current conditions, delivery by rail allows Ukrposhta to cross the border, despite force majeure situations. It will also allow to deliver increased peak volumes after the seasonal sale on international trading platforms. In contrast to roadways, when delivered by rail, parcels cross the border in 1 day.
In the first test delivery by rail, Omniva and Ukrposhta jointly delivered 3 wagons with almost 80,000 customer parcels from global marketplaces.
