The first accident involving the new Tesla Cybertruck electric vehicle was recorded in California. There were three people in the car. The second participant in the accident was a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by a 17-year-old driver.
“Our preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on SR-35, just south of Page Mill Road, at an unknown speed when the driver made a right turn for unknown reasons and subsequently struck a dirt embankment on the right shoulder. The Toyota then re-entered the roadway, crossed the double yellow dividing lines and entered the northbound lane, striking a Tesla Cybertruck traveling northbound on SR-35,” the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.
The accident happened in cloudy and rainy weather. At the time of the incident, the Cybertruck was, after all, not in autonomous mode.
Experts suggested that the rigid structure and clumsy design of the Tesla Cybertruck could be a danger to others in the event of an accident. However, the first recorded accident involving a Cybertruck does not yet confirm these fears. Only the driver of the Cybertruck was reported to have suffered minor injuries and refused to go to the hospital. No other people were injured in the accident.
However, the published photos show significant damage to the front of the Corolla. Visible parts of the Cybertruck do not have the same significant damage, despite the deployed side airbags. However, the photos do not show the driver’s side of the car.
