The head of the French government submitted a corresponding statement to the country’s President Emmanuel Macron.
French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has submitted her resignation. She emphasized that she considers it “more necessary than ever to continue reforms” and “together with members of the current government will deal with current affairs until a new one is appointed.”
In turn, French President Emmanuel Macron thanked Elisabeth Borne on his social network X for her work as Prime Minister.
“Your work in the service of our nation has been exemplary every day. You have carried out our project with the courage, dedication and determination of women of the state. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Macron wrote.
As you know, Elisabeth Borne has held senior positions in the French government since 2017. In 2022, she became prime minister – the second woman to hold this post.
The government changes come amid approval of an unpopular immigration bill that has deepened divisions in French President Macron’s party.
