Sony has found an interesting way to attract attention at CES 2024.
The company has been working on the Afeela concept electric car in partnership with Honda for several years now, and has now revealed its latest iteration, bringing it to the stage with the PlayStation DualSense controller. The demo was bright, but hardly reflected Sony’s real-life attempts to replace the steering wheel with a joystick. From the latest news on Afeela, we only know that the car will appear in Gran Turismo 7 after an update and will enter the real market in 2026.
Electrec previously reported that the concept Afeela will have 400 kW (536 hp) dual all-wheel drive, 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. Pricing and battery details are also yet to be announced.
Sony also demonstrated a new spatial content creation system developed in partnership with Siemens, which will help users edit and shape 3D models with a virtual reality headset. According to the CEO of the company, Kenchirio Yoshida, the headset works on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, is equipped with 4K OLED displays and two controllers – in the form of a regular VR joystick and a ring.
The front part of the headset can rotate, thereby moving the wearer between virtual and physical space. The new system will be released later in 2024, but pricing details have not yet been released. In the future, the headset will compete with the Apple Vision Pro, which will appear in stores for sale on February 2.
