Apple’s next-generation iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will be equipped with 8GB of RAM instead of 6GB in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, according to information shared by technology analyst Jeff Pu.
In a note from investment company Haitong International Securities, Pu confirmed his belief that all iPhone 16 models will be equipped with 8 GB of RAM. An increase in the amount of RAM should help improve multitasking performance in the iPhone, according to MacRumors.
The iPhone 15 model range:
- iPhone 15: 6 GB
- iPhone 15 Plus: 6 GB
- iPhone 15 Pro: 8 GB
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 8 GB
The iPhone 16 lineup, according to Pu:
- iPhone 16: 8 GB
- iPhone 16 Plus: 8 GB
- iPhone 16 Pro: 8 GB
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 8 GB
Pu also expects the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to support Wi-Fi 6E, which operates in the 6GHz band, providing faster wireless speeds and less signal interference when using a compatible router. In the iPhone 15 lineup, Wi-Fi 6E is only available on the Pro models. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 lineup in September.
Another insider from Jeff Pu – iPhone 16 Pro models will be equipped with Snapdragon X75 modem from Qualcomm. However, he expects the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem installed in all iPhone 15 models.
Announced in February 2023, the Snapdragon X75 features improved carrier aggregation and other technological improvements for faster 5G upload and download compared to the X70. The combined mmWave modem and 5G transceiver with a frequency of up to 6 GHz takes up 25% less space on the printed circuit board and consumes 20% less power.
The Snapdragon X75 also supports the latest 5G Advanced standard, which is described as the “next phase of 5G” and the “evolution to 6G.” 5G Advanced will include artificial intelligence and machine learning enhancements to improve 5G performance, and will extend 5G capabilities to additional device types and usage scenarios.
Apple has been working on its own 5G modem for the iPhone since 2018, but the project has run into development problems and the modem is not expected to be announced until 2025 or later. Meanwhile, Apple has extended its deal with Qualcomm to build a 5G modem until 2026.
