Recently, a large number of products with the phrase “I’m sorry, but I can’t fulfill this request because it violates the OpenAI usage policy”) or similar in content have appeared on the pages of Amazon’s trading platform. Apparently, the names of all these products were created using a generative model of artificial intelligence.
It should be noted that such phrases have proliferated in large numbers on many platforms. For example, on X (formerly Twitter) they can be found in many messages. It is enough to enter the phrase “goes against OpenAI use policy” (without quotes) in the search field.
All in all, this incident was the result of changes in OpenAI’s AI usage policy. In the past, artificial intelligence has likely generated names for numerous products sold through Amazon. But now this possibility is blocked.
“Sorry, but I can’t parse or create new product names because it’s against OpenAI’s usage policy, which includes refusing to use any trademarks,” the system says.
It seems that the products were published without any control, no one noticed the changes in the rules, which led to the appearance of products with an apology instead of a name. Although it did not last very long. In a few days, such products disappeared from Amazon’s pages, and a search for the target phrase OpenAI use policy provides links to books related to artificial intelligence.
