Next-generation AMD Ryzen chips have gone into mass production. Processors with the new Zen 5 Granite Ridge architecture will be released for the AM5 desktop platform already this year. They will fit existing motherboards with 600 series chipsets. The processors have already been included in AMD’s roadmap, and rumors of the start of production confirm that the company is following the plan.
Currently, little is known about the architecture of the Zen 5 core. Officially, AMD promises improved performance and energy efficiency, a redesigned front end, optimization for AI and machine learning.
The release of new AMD processors practically coincides with the appearance of Intel Arrow Lake-S desktop processors on the new LGA 1851 connector. The competitor also promises powerful graphics and NPU, but the motherboard will have to be changed. In turn, AMD has committed to support AM5 until 2025.
